Kiruv Ideas
Warning: If you care about the future of our people - these ideas should definitely be tried at home. Involve your family – make them your partners in this venture. The person you give a positive image of authentic Torah Judaism may be your own child.
Give a Jewish Book for any occasion. A thank you for a referral, a lead, a tip, a favor. A present for a birthday, anniversary (any anniversary - a happy OR sad occasion) a birth, a first date, a milestone...Inscribe it-- “thought you might enjoy this” or “when I saw this book, I thought of you...”
Send an interesting article through the mail. With the advent of email personal mail has become old hat. The personal touch of writing a note and licking an envelope can melt away the coldest heart.
If you don’t like licking envelopes – send a link ... its quick, its free and it allows the recipient to absorb what you are sending without pressure and, because they are already on the web at the kosher site of your choosing, chances are they can surf deeper to other great sites.
Invite someone for a meal. A famous Baal tshuva once said
“the way to a mans neshoma is through his stomach”
Insert a great link in the signature line of your email. You may forget it’s there but it will reach out far beyond the content of your email.
Learn with someone. When the famous Rabbi Uri Zohar was asked to give a Torah class for beginners, he chose the longest mesechte’ (tractate in the Talmud). When he was asked why he didn’t choose something more simplistic or of a more philosophical bent, he responded- “you don’t realize the power of the Torah”. Just sitting and learning has the power to affect change.
Smile. The gemorah (Talmud) states that a sincerely offered smile is like giving someone a glass of cold milk on a hot day. There are Jews out there who are afraid to approach a religious Jew because they have negative preconceived notions about religious Jewry. A smile can make all the difference.
Daven (pray) for someone. When we say the prayer asking G-d to heal, we say
“...to heal the body and to heal the soul...”
Kiruv means to bring close...Our prayers brings a persons soul closer to where they should be.
Sponsor Jewish Books and Programs. Survival through Education was founded to promote the future of the
Jewish People. We believe that this can only be insured through the education and inspiration of all Jews, regardless of their affiliation, to be proud of their Jewish Heritage and to lend meaning to their lives through concrete action and application.
